Abstract A silver halide color photographic material that has at least one silver halide emulsion layer on a support is disclosed. Said silver halide emulsion layer contains at least one magenta coupler having the following formula: <IMAGE> wherein R1 is a tertiary alkyl group; R2 is a primary alkyl group; and X is a halogen atom.

A silver halide color photographic material according to claim 1, wherein R 1 in said formula is a group selected from among t-butyl, 1-1-dimethyl-2-methoxy-ethyl, 1,1-dimethyl-2-chloro-ethyl, 1-methyl-1-methoxy-ethyl, 1-methyl-1-phenyl-ethyl, 1,1-di-n-amyl-hexyl, 7,7-dimethylnorbornan-1-yl, 1,1-dimethyl-butyl, 1-ethyl-1-methyl-propyl and adamantyl groups; and wherein, when R 1 in said formula represents a t-butyl group and X represents a chlorine atom, R 2 represents a primary alkyl group other than one of the following groups: ##STR12##
