Abstract
Abstract A supported solid catalyst composition for polymerizing alpha-olefins is prepared by treating a carrier with a transition metal compound. The carrier utilized in the synthesis must have such an average pore diameter that the resulting catalyst composition has an average pore diameter of at least about 170 Angstroms. The catalyst composition has higher productivity than similar catalyst compositions of lower average pore diameter, and it produces polymers of lower density and higher melt and high load melt indexes than such similar catalyst compositions of lower average pore diameter. Also disclosed is a process for polymerizing alpha-olefins in the presence of the catalyst of the invention.
