Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
120 words
People monitoring means comprising: a first unit having switch means operable by people who are watching a television set to provide data related to the number of such people, a first transmitter for transmitting said data by way of infra-red radiation and a second transmitter for transmitting said data by way of ultra-sonic radiation; a second unit, remote from the first unit, having a first detector adapted to detect infra-red radiation, a second detector adapted to detect ultra-sonic radiation and means for accepting and storing said data transmitted from said first unit to said second unit by means of such radiation; and switch means operable to select transmission of said data alternatively by either ultra-sonic radiation or by infra-red radiation.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
30 words
The people monitoring means of claim 1, wherein said means for accepting and storing said data transmitted from said first unit to said second unit comprises a plurality of bistables.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
16 words
The people monitoring means of claim 2 wherein one of said bistables comprises a D-type flip-flop.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
60 words
The people monitoring means of claim 1, wherein said second unit includes visual display means for displaying an indication of said data stored in said second unit, said visual display means being such that intermittent display of said indication by said visual display means when said television set is ON indicates that no data is stored in said second unit.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
30 words
The people monitoring means of claim 1, wherein said switch means operable by the people watching the television set comprises a plurality of pushbuttons to be depressed by such people.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
109 words
The people monitoring means of claim 1: wherein said switch means operable by the people watching the television set comprises a plurality of switches actuatable by people watching a television set, each of said switches having a number allocated thereto representing one of such people; wherein said data comprises information relating to the number of a switch which has been actuated; and said second unit further comprising: means for decoding the transmitted data to provide said number of said actuated switch; display means located at said detection means to display said number decoded by said decoding means; and storage means for storing said number decoded by said decoding means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
33 words
The people monitoring means of claim 6, wherein said display means comprises means for intermittently indicating when said television set is ON, that none of said data is stored in said second unit.
