Abstract

Abstract A method and apparatus for producing a display of eddy current test data from signals produced by an eddy current detector which is supplied with an alternating current signal composed of alternating currents at several different frequencies, the detector signals including a respective signal associated with each current frequency and varying in amplitude and in phase relative to its associated alternating current as the detector is displaced relative to a test body. For each detector signal, a data signal representing the detector signal component in phase with the associated alternating current and a data signal representing the detector signal component in quadrature with the associated alternating current are generated, a representation of each data signal is stored, and the representation of each data signal is supplied to a display device for producing a first display composed of visible representations of all data signals along parallel axis, with each axis being associated with a respective data signal and being representative of the movement of the detector relative to the test body. When desired, end points of a visible representation of a data signal along the axis associated with that representation are selected and a second display representing the ratio of the value of that data signal to the value of the data signal generated from the same detector signal, for signal values between the selected end points, is produced.
