Abstract
Abstract Carbonate polymer compositions are rendered gamma ray resistant by the incorporation of 0.1 to 10 percent by weight of the esters of aromatic polycarboxylic acids such as terephthalic, isophthalic, phthalic, trimellitic, hemimellitic, trimesic, and prehnitic acids with the monoalkyl or monoaryl ethers of polyglycols. The compositions have reduced yellowing after exposure to cobalt 60 radiation.

A carbonate polymer composition with improved resistance to gamma radiation which comprises a carbonate polymer and a gamma radiation resistance improving amount of an ester of an aromatic acid having the formula ##STR3## wherein R 1 is a phenyl radical or aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having one to eight carbon atoms; R 2 is either hydrogen or a methyl radical; x and y are independently 2, 3 or 4; z is 1, 2 or 3.
