Abstract

Abstract A system for monitoring a limited number of operating conditions in a nuclear reactor and for graphically displaying same on a display device is disclosed. The system parameters selected are those which typically change as a result of a reactor trip. As long as these system parameters remain within a "post-trip window" on the graphic display, the power plant is operating normally. If, however, any of the foregoing system parameters falls outside this "window", this is an immediate indication to the power plant operator to institute the necessary procedures to remedy same. A sequential controller (26) is provided to continuously sequentially sample the foregoing operating parameters and to transmit data regarding same to the display device.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 116 words
A system for monitoring abnormal transient conditions in a coolant fed pressurized water nuclear reactor installation comprising display means for providing a static display area formed from a pressure-temperature area which is bounded by a saturation curve and enclosing certain reactor operating perameters indicating that the nuclear steam supply system installation is within normal operating limits within this static display area and means for providing a dynamic display of reactor coolant hot leg temperature, said dynamic display being superimposed on said static display to indicate normal reactor operation so long as the dynamic display is within the static display area, and means for sequentially sampling said operating perameters permitting the continuous updating of said dynamic display.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
The system as defined in claim 1 wherein said static display is comprised of a graphical display having pressure versus temperature as the axes thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 30 words
The system as defined in claim 2 wherein reactor coolant and steam outlet pressure existing in the nuclear steam supply system are displayed on one axis of said graphical display.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 31 words
The system as defined in claim 2 wherein reactor coolant and steam outlet temperature existing in the nuclear steam supply system are displayed on the other axis of said graphical display.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
The system as defined in claim 1 wherein said static display further includes an indication of the saturation curve and the subcooled margin line of the nuclear steam supply system.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 24 words
The system as defined in claim 1 wherein said dynamic display includes an indication of the cold leg temperature of the reactor coolant system.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
The system as defined in claim 1 wherein said dynamic display includes an indication of the saturation temperature of the steam input pressure.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
The system as defined in claim 1 further including means for recording said dynamic display.
