In an ignition distributor to work with an engine control computer, a coil, a reference signal generator, a reference signal sensor, a synchronization signal generator, a synchronization signal sensor, fuel injectors, and the spark plugs of an internal combustion engine to supply high tension electrical energy to the spark plugs and to supply signals to the fuel injectors, where the ignition distributor communicates with the engine control computer using signals from the reference signal generator and the synchronization signal generator as interrupted by an interrupter with metal vanes equal in number to the number of internal combustion chambers in the internal combustion engine where one of the vanes has a window and as sensed by the reference signal sensor and the synchronization signal sensor, an in-synchronization method for processing the signals produced thereby and for controlling the supply of high tension electrical energy to the spark plugs and to control the supply of energization and de-energization signals to the fuel injectors thereby synchronizing the ignition and injection, the method comprising: checking the synchronization condition on a periodic basis by: determining the condition of the signal from the reference signal sensor, resetting a first flag in the engine control computer and then ending the in-synchronization method if the reference signal is low, and if the reference signal is high, checking the condition of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor; if the signal from the synchronization signal sensor is low, setting the first flag and then ending the in-synchronization method, and if the signal is high, checking the condition of the first flag; if the condition of the first flag is reset, ending the in-synchronization method, and if the flag is set, setting a second flag indicating that the top dead center position of cylinder 3 is imminent; and then ending the in-synchronization method.

The method of claim 1 with a signal transition check comprising: monitoring the transition of the reference signal sensor and making a decision upon each transition; if the reference signal is on a rising edge, checking the condition of a third flag in the engine control computer; ending the signal transition check if the condition of the third flag is reset, and if set, calculating in the engine control computer the ignition period, the dwell period and the anti-dwell period; checking the engine RPM and supplying current to the coil if the engine RPM is less than a preset level, and setting up timers in the engine control computer to supply current to the coil and to interrupt the current to the coil, thereby firing the ignition if the engine RPM is greater than or equal to a preset level stored in the engine control computer; and ending the signal transition check; if the transition of the signal from the reference signal sensor is on a falling edge, checking the condition of the third flag; if the condition of the third flag is reset, checking the condition of the second flag; if the second flag is in a set condition, setting the condition of the third flag; initializing a counter in the engine control computer; calculating the pulse width of the signal to be sent to the injectors; firing the appropriate injectors based on the calculated pulse width; checking the engine RPM and ending the signal transition check if the engine RPM is greater than or equal to a preset level stored in the engine control computer, and interrupting the coil current to fire the ignition if the engine RPM is less than a preset level stored in the engine control computer, and then ending the signal transition check; if the condition of the signal from the reference signal sensor is on a falling edge and the condition of the third flag is reset and if the condition of the second flag is reset, and following the same path if the transition of the signal from the reference signal sensor is on a falling edge and the condition of the third flag is in a set condition: checking the condition of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor to see if it has changed since the last falling transition of the signal from the reference signal sensor; if the condition of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor did not change since the last falling transition of the signal from the reference signal sensor, beginning a counter incrementing routine comprising: incrementing a counter in the engine control computer if the state of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor remains the same since the last falling transition of the signal from the reference signal sensor; checking the condition of the counter, resetting the third flag if the counter has an reached overflow amount stored in the engine control computer thereby preventing the energization of the injectors and coil; ending the signal transition check; checking the condition of the third flag if the condition of the counter is less than an overflow amount stored in the engine control computer; ending the signal transition check if the condition of the third flag is reset; calculating the injector signal pulse width if the condition of the counter is less than the overflow amount and if the condition of the third flag is set; firing the appropriate injectors based on the calculated pulse width; checking the engine RPM, and ending the signal transition check if the engine RPM is greater than or equal to a preset level stored in the engine control computer and interrupting the coil current to fire the ignition if the engine RPM level is less than a preset level stored in the engine control computer and then ending the signal transition check of the signal from the reference signal sensor; if the state of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor changed since the last falling transition of the reference pick-up signal, checking the condition of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor and following the counter incrementing routine if the condition of the signal from the synchronization signal sensor is low; if the signal from the synchronization signal sensor is high, setting the condition of the third flag; initializing the counter in the engine control computer; skipping the next rising transition of the signal from the reference signal sensor; and ending the signal transition check.
