Abstract

Abstract A hydraulic shock absorbing device of adjustable damping force type for use in a vehicle such as an automobile includes hydraulic dampers with the damping force thereof being adjustable between at least two, low and high damping force conditions, and a selective switching circuit operable by a driver of the vehicle for selectively determining the damping force condition of the dampers. At least one sensor is provided to detect the operating condition of the vehicle, such as the speed of the vehicle, the position of the gas pedal, the pressure in the braking system or the like, to generate a signal at a predetermined operating condition of the vehicle, and the signal is supplied to a control circuit for switching the dampers to the high damping force condition to override the switching circuit.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 117 words
A hydraulic shock absorbing device of adjustable damping force type for use in a vehicle, said device comprising: a hydraulic damper with the damping force thereof being adjustable between at least two, low and high damping force conditions; selective switching circuit means operable by a driver of the vehicle for selectively determining the damping force of the damper; at least one sensor means for detecting an operating condition of the vehicle; and control means connected to said sensor means for adjusting the damping force of said damper to said high damping force condition, in response to a predetermined operating condition of the vehicle detected by said sensor means, and thereby to predominate over said switching circuit means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 117 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
A hydraulic shock absorbing device according to claim 1 wherein said sensor means comprise a pressure sensor detecting the hydraulic pressure in a brake cylinder and a sensor detecting the velocity of the vehicle.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 37 words
A hydraulic shock absorbing device according to claim 1 wherein said sensor means comprise a sensor detecting the speed of the vehicle and a sensor detecting the rotating angle of a steering gear or a steering wheel.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 27 words
A hydraulic shock absorbing device according to claim 1 wherein said sensor means comprise a sensor detecting the position of an accelerator pedal or a throttle lever.
