Abstract
Abstract Polyglycol lubricants of improved rheological characteristics are produced by adding a lithium salt to a polyglycol liquid lubricant. Preferred lithium salt are non-nucleophilic salts such as lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate. These salts improve the pressure-viscosity characteristics of the lubricant without significantly affecting the temperature-viscosity characteristics so that thicker lubricant films are produced in elastohydrodynamic film contact.
