Silver halide photographic emulsions

Claim 2

A silver halide color photographic emulsion containing at least one sensitizing dye represented by formula (I), and at least one compound represented by formula (II), wherein formula (I) is ##STR21## wherein V is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a halogen atom, a phenyl group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or forms a condensed benzene ring; W 1 and W 2 may be the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, an acyl group, an acyloxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, a substituted carbamoyl group, a sulfamoyl group, a substituted sulfamoyl group, a cyano group, a trifluoromethyl group, a hydroxyl group, or an alkylsulfonyl group; R 1 , R 2 and R 3 may be the same or different and are each an alkyl group or a substituted alkyl group, provided that at least one of R 2 and R 3 is a substituted alkyl group containing a sulfo group or a carboxyl group; X is an acid anion; and n is 1 or 2; and wherein formula (II) is ##STR22## wherein R 5 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an acyloxy group, an alkoxyl group, an amino group, a substituted amino group, an acyl amide group, an alkane sulfonyl amide group or a carbamoyl group; Y is alkylene, arylene, aralkylene, --COO--, or --COOY 1 --OCO--, where Y 1 contains from 1 to 18 carbon atoms and is alkylene, arylene, or aralkylene; X 1 is an anion; and m 1 and m 2 may be the same or different and are each an integer of from 1 to 19, and wherein said emulsion contains a color forming material.

Claim 3

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein V is located at the 5- or 6-position.

Claim 4

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein V is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a halogen atom, a phenyl group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, or forms a condensed benzene ring; W 1 and W 2 may be the same or different and are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group selected from an alkyl group, an allyl group, and a cyclic alkyl group having 6 or less carbon atoms, an acyl group having 8 or less carbon atoms, and acyloxy group having 3 or less carbon atoms, and alkoxycarbonyl group having 8 or less carbon atoms, a carbamoyl group, a substituted carbamoyl group having 2 to 12 carbon atoms, a sulfamoyl group, a substituted sulfamoyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a cyano group, a trifluoromethyl group, a hydroxyl group, or an alkylsulfonyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 1 , R 2 and R 3 may be the same or different and are each an alkyl group having 8 or less carbon atoms, a substituted alkyl group having 6 or less carbon atoms and a substituent selected from the group consisting of --COO - , --COOM, --SO 2 - , --SO 3 M (wherein M represents H, Na and K), --COOH.A, --SO 3 H.A (wherein A represents an organic base) a cyano group, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group having 8 or less carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 7 or less carbon atoms, an aryloxy group having 6 to 16 carbon atoms, an acyloxy group having 3 or less carbon atoms, an acyl group having 8 or less carbon atoms, a carbamoyl group, a substituted carbamoyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a sulfamoyl group, a substituted sulfamoyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or an aryl group or a substituted aryl group having 6 to 16 carbon atoms, at least one of R 2 and R 3 is a substituted alkyl group containing a sulfo group or a carboxyl group; X is an acid anion; and n is 1 when the sensitizing dye of formula (I) forms an intramolecular salt, and is otherwise 2.

Claim 5

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein X - represents an anion selected from the group consisting of Cl, F, Br, I, p-toluene sulfonic acid, p-chlorobenzene sulfonic acid, ethyl sulfuric acid and perchlorate ions.

Claim 6

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein W 1 and W 2 each is a halogen atom, a cyano group, or a trifluoromethyl group, and V is a phenyl group, a halogen atom, or a condensed benzene ring.

Claim 7

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein R 5 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, an alkoxycarbonyl group having 2 to 18 carbon atoms, an acyloxy group having 2 to 18 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, an amino group, a substituted amino group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an acylamide group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, an alkane sulfoneamide having carbon atoms of less than 12, a carbamoyl group, or a substituted carbamoyl group having 2 to 12 carbon atoms;

Y is an alkylene group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, an arylene group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, an aralkylene group having 7 to 18 carbon atoms, --COO--, or --COO--Y 1 --OCO--, wherein Y 1 is alkylene group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, arylene group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, or aralkylene group having 7 to 18 carbon atoms; X 1 is an anion; and m 1 and m 2 may be the same or different and are each an integer of 1 to 19.

Claim 9

Y is an alkylene group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, an arylene group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, an aralkylene group having 7 to 18 carbon atoms, --COO--, or --COO--Y 1 --OCO--, wherein Y 1 is alkylene group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, arylene group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, or aralkylene group having 7 to 18 carbon atoms; X 1 is an anion; and m 1 and m 2 may be the same or different and are each an integer of 1 to 19.

Claim 10

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein X 1 - represents an anion selected from the group consisting of Cl, F, Br, I, p-toluene sulfonic acid, p-chlorobenzene sulfonic acid, ethyl sulfuric acid and perchlorate anions.

Claim 11

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein the sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) is incorporated into the silver halide photographic emulsion in an amount of from 1×10 -6 to 5×10 -3 mol per mol of silver halide.

Claim 12

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein the sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) is incorporated into the silver halide photographic emulsion in an amount of from 1×10 -5 to 2.5×10 -3 mol per mol of silver halide.

Claim 13

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein the compound represented by formula (II) is incorporated in the silver halide photographic emulsion in an amount of from about 0.01 to about 10 m moles per mol of silver halide.

Claim 14

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein the compound represented by formula (II) is incorporated in the silver halide photographic emulsion in an amount of from about 0.2 to about 2.5 m moles per mol of silver halide.

Claim 15

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, the weight ratio of the dye represented by formula (I) to the compound represented by formula (II) is from 4:1 to 1:100.

Claim 16

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, the weight ratio of the dye represented by formula (I) to the compound represented by formula (II) is from 2:1 to 1:40.

Claim 17

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of V, R 2 and R 3 and W 1 and W 2 is limited as follows: V is a halogen atom, a phenyl group, a carboxyl group or forms a condensed benzene ring, one of R 2 and R 3 is a substituted alkyl group containing a sulfo group or carboxyl group, or W 1 and W 2 are each an acyl group, an acyloxy group, a carbamoyl group, a substituted carbamoyl group, a sulfamoyl group, a substituted sulfamoyl group or an alkylsulfonyl group.

Claim 18

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 1, wherein said color forming material is a color coupler.

Claim 19

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 15, wherein said coupler is a magenta coupler.

Claim 20

A silver halide color photographic emulsion as in claim 15, wherein said emulsion is green sensitive.
