Claim 1
Independent Claim
119 words
A method of purifying a crude liquid organosulfonyl chloride product recovered from its manufacturing process or otherwise similarly contaminated which comprises first subjecting said crude product to scrubbing with a clean, aqueous hydrochloric acid solution having an acid concentration of at least about 18%, based on the weight of the solution, for a time sufficient to extract organosulfonic acid, separating the scrubbed product from the hydrochloric acid solution, and then stripping said scrubbed product at a temperature no greater than about 70° C. and under subatmospheric pressure of no greater than about 500 torr while an inert gas is caused to sweep the volatiles issuing from the organosulfonyl chloride being stripped, and thereafter recovering a purified organosulfonyl chloride product.
