Abstract

Abstract A focal plane shutter for a video camera has a pair of disks rotated in the same direction about a common axis in synchronism with the raster scan blanking interval. The phase relationship or relative angular positions of the disks can be continuously varied, while the disks are rotating in use, to vary the shutter speed or exposure time. Mechanisms for continuously varying the angular positions of the disks include mechanical linkages and hydraulic systems.
