Abstract A particulate or granular oxygen absorbent comprising at least one ascorbic compound selected from ascorbic acid, ascorbic acid salts or mixtures thereof, an alkali metal carbonate, an iron compound, carbon black and water and the absorbent coated with a finely divided powder are disclosed.
