Surface-active polysiloxanes

Claim 2

In a composition for dyeing hair comprising an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic carrier, a hair dye and a surfactant, the improvement comprising, as said surfactant at least 0.5×10 -3 weight percent of at least one of a cyclic or linear polysiloxane, or a mixture thereof, having the formula ##STR37## wherein x is an integer from 3 to 10, and A is a cationic, anionic, zwitterionic or non-ionic hydrophilic unit which contains one or more of the same or different groups selected from the group consisting of amine, amine oxide, ammonium, ammonioalkylcarboxylate, ammonioalkyl-sulphonate, amide, sulphonamide, ether, thioether, sulphoxide, hydroxyl, ester and acid group.

Claim 3

The composition of claim 1 wherein A represents a group of the formula ##STR38## wherein R 1 represents CH 3 or (CH 2 --CH 2 --O) n H wherein u is 0 or 1 and n is 1-10; ##STR39## wherein V.sup.⊖ is the anion of an organic or mineral acid, R 1 has the meaning given in (a) above and u is 0 or 1; ##STR40## wherein R 2 is methyl, hydroxyethyl or dihydroxypropyl, X.sup.⊖ is an anion, and R 1 and u have the meanings given in (a) above; ##STR41## wherein Q.sup.⊖ is --CH 2 COO.sup.⊖, --CH 2 --CH 2 --COO.sup.⊖ or --CH 2 --CH 2 --CH 2 --SO 3 .sup.⊖ and R 1 has the meaning given in (a) above; ##STR42## wherein m is 2 or 3, u and w each independently are 0 or 1 and B is ##STR43## or additionally if w is 0, the group ##STR44## wherein u is 0 or 1, V.sup.⊖ has the meaning given in (b) above, R 2 and X.sup.⊖ have the meanings given in (c) above, and Q.sup.⊖ has the meaning given in (d) above; --CH.sub.2 --O--SO.sub.2 NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.m --B (f) wherein m is 2 or 3 and B has the meaning given in (e) above when w is 0; ##STR45## wherein n has the meaning given in (a) above, w is 0 or 1 and u and B have the meanings given in (e) above; ##STR46## wherein M is hydrogen, ammonium or alkali metal, and u and w each independently are 0 or 1; (i) --CH.sub.2 --O--SO.sub.3 M wherein M has the meaning given in (h) above; ##STR47## wherein Y is ethylene or hydroxypropylene, u is 0 or 1 and n is 1-10; and ##STR48## wherein p and q, each independently are 0 or a positive number up to 10, with the proviso that p and q are not 0 simultaneously, Y has the meaning given in (j) above and Z is one of --OH, ##STR49## furthermore, when p is 0 or when Y is ethylene, Z can also be one of --OSO 3 M or --OCO--CH 2 --SO 3 M, wherein u is 0 or 1, R 1 has the meaning given in (a) above, V.sup.⊖ has the meaning given in (b) above, R 2 and X.sup.⊖ have the meanings given in (c) above, Q.sup.⊖ has the meaning given in (d) above the M has the meaning given in (h) above.

Claim 4

The composition of claim 1 wherein x is an integer from 3 to 6.

Claim 5

The composition of claim 1 wherein A is --CH 2 --N(CH 3 )CH 2 CH 2 OH, --CONH(CH 2 ) 3 N(CH 3 ) 2 , ##STR50##

Claim 6

The composition of claim 1 wherein said hair dye is an oxidation dye precursor of the para type, optionally with one or more couplers, or a direct dyestuff selected from the group consisting of nitrobenzene dye and azo dye.

Claim 7

The composition of claim 1 wherein said polysiloxane is present in an amount of at least 0.5×10 -2 g/liter.

Claim 8

A process for dyeing hair comprising applying to said hair, in an amount effective to dye said hair, the composition of claim 1.
