Abstract A water soluble disazo compound represented by the general formula: <IMAGE> (I) <IMAGE> wherein X represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl, methoxy or ethoxy group, Y represents a methoxy or ethoxy group, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl, -C2H4OH, <IMAGE> group, and the <IMAGE> group is bonded at the 6- or 7-position, a copper complex salt thereof, and a sheet or film colored therewith.
