Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 107 words
A process for preparing an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising reacting an alkoxytitanium compound, a phenol, and a small quantity of water in a hydrocarbon liquid, then reacting the resulting solution with a magnesium dihalide having less than 1.5 moles of water per mole of magnesium dihalide to form a first catalyst component solution, then reacting that solution with an organoaluminum halide to form a solid product, and then reacting said solid product with a halogenating agent comprising a titanium halide, wherein the amount of water employed in forming said first catalyst component solution is such that the catalyst is more active than if no water were employed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 107 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to claim 1 wherein said magnesium dihalide has less than 1 mole of water per mole of magnesium dihalide.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 48 words
A process according to claim 2 wherein said magnesium dihalide comprises magnesium dichloride, said alkoxytitanium compound comprises a compound of the formula Ti(OR) 4 wherein each R is individually selected from alkyl groups containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and wherein said organoaluminum halide comprises ethyl aluminum sesquichloride.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
A process according to claim 3 wherein said halogenating agent comprises a mixture of TiCl 4 , HsiCl 3 , and SiCl 4 .
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
A process according to claim 4 wherein the combined volumes of the HSiCl 3 and SiCl 4 in the halogenating agent is equal to the volume of TiCl 4 .
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 50 words
A process according to claim 4 wherein said magnesium dihalide has less than 0.1 mole of water associated with each mole of magnesium dihalide and the molar ratio of water added in making said first catalyst component solution to the titanium compound is in the range of 1/1 to 5/1.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 24 words
A process according to claim 6 wherein said magnesium dihalide has less than 0.05 mole of water associated with each mole of magnesium dihalide.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to claim 7 wherein said phenol is selected from the group consisting of 4-phenyl phenol, p-cresol, phenol and p-sec-butylphenol.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 18 words
A process according to claim 8 wherein ethylbenzoate is also employed in making said first catalyst component solution.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 12 words
A process according to claim 9 wherein said phenol is 4-phenyl phenol.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 9 words
A catalyst produced by the process of claim 1.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 9 words
A catalyst produced by the process of claim 6.
