Abstract What are disclosed are a hybrid vector synthesized from a segment of mitochondrial DNA containing an origin of replication and, optionally, from a segment of a prokaryotic plasmid, and a method for improving the amplification and expression of hybrid vectors in eukaryotic host cells using mitochondrial DNA.
