Abstract

Abstract An idling rpm control method for feedback control of a control valve for controlling the quantity of supplementary air being supplied to the engine in response to a difference between actual engine idling rpm and desired idling rpm. At the start of the engine, the control valve is continuously opened for a predetermined period of time from the time the engine rpm has increased above a predetermined value lower than the desired idling rpm, thereby maintaining the engine rpm at a value higher than the above desired idling rpm. The above predetermined period of time may desirably be set to a value as a function of engine temperature, preferably detected immediately after the engine rpm has exceeded the above predetermined value of engine rpm.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 110 words
A method for controlling a control valve for regulating the quantity of supplementary air being supplied to an internal combustion engine, in a feedback manner responsive to the difference between actual engine rpm and desired idling rpm during idling of the engine, the method comprising the steps of: (a) detecting engine rpm at the start of the engine; and (b) opening said control valve to a maximum opening for a predetermined period of time from the time the engine rpm is detected to have increased above a predetermined value lower than said desired idling rpm, whereby the engine rpm is maintained at a value higher than said desired idling rpm.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, including the step of setting said predetermined period of time to values as a function of the temperature of the engine.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
A method as claimed in claim 2, including the step of detecting the temperature of the engine immediately after the engine rpm has increased above said predetermined value of engine rpm.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 33 words
A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said predetermined period of time is set to larger values as the temperature of the engine decreases below a predetermined value and further becomes lower.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said predetermined period of time is set to larger values as the temperature of the engine increases above a predetermined value and further becomes higher.
