Abstract
Abstract A process is provided whereby the dimer fraction obtained from a boron trifluoride catalyzed oligomerization process is reacted with an alpha -olefin in the presence of a phosphoric acid-modified boron trifluoride catalyst to produce higher oligomeric products typically having viscosities (210 DEG F.) in the 4 to 8 centistoke range.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
94 words
A process for converting the dimer fraction obtained from a boron trifluoride-catalyzed oligomerization of C 6-12 α-olefins to more highly useful oligomeric products which comprises reacting said dimer with an α-olefin having from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, the weight ratio of said dimer to said α-olefin being 5:1 to 1:5, at a temperature from 5° C. to 75° C. and pressure from atmospheric up to 100 psi and in the presence of 0.75 to 15 mole percent phosphoric acid-modified boron trifluoride catalyst, and separating the higher oligomers formed from unreacted dimer and α-olefin.
