Abstract

Abstract A heat conductive material in solid form which is readily excoriated whereby it can be applied by rubbing on the surface to which it is to be applied is formed, in the preferred form, by mixing finely divided heat conducting solids in a waxy material. That material is formed of waxes, or certain fats, and is solid in the range of normal room temperatures. In preferred form, it becomes molten at temperatures in that range just above normal room temperature at which heat generating electronic semi-conductor devices often operate. The mixture is applied at normal room temperature in sheet insulator form by rubbing, or at elevated temperature by painting. It is applied to the surfaces to be mated and across which heat is to be conducted whereupon the surfaces are mated with the coating between them.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 90 words
For application to the surfaces of electronic apparatus, a heat conducting and electrically non-conducting material in sheet form at normal room temperature which includes a non-metallic sheet material other than wax having metal based heat conduction elements as an ingredient and wax exposed on both sides of the sheet which changes state between solid and a flowable state as an incident to change in temperature between normal room temperature and a temperature in the range above normal room temperature, and in the temperature range in which said electronic apparatus operates.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 90 words
For application to the surfaces of electronic apparatus, a heat conducting and electrically non-conducting material in sheet form at normal room temperature which includes a non-metallic sheet material other than wax having metal based heat conduction elements as an ingredient and wax exposed on both sides of the sheet which changes state between solid and a flowable state as an incident to change in temperature between normal room temperature and a temperature in the range above normal room temperature, and in the temperature range in which said electronic apparatus operates.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 83 words
For application to the surfaces of electronic apparatus, a heat conducting and electrically non-conducting fire retardant material in sheet form at room temperature having a central layer of plastic material filled with heat conducting elements and coated on both sides with a material which changes state between solid and a flowable state as an incident to change in temperature between normal room temperature and a temperature in the range above normal temperature and in the temperature range in which said electronic apparatus operates.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 83 words
For application to the surfaces of electronic apparatus, a heat conducting and electrically non-conducting fire retardant material in sheet form at room temperature having a central layer of plastic material filled with heat conducting elements and coated on both sides with a material which changes state between solid and a flowable state as an incident to change in temperature between normal room temperature and a temperature in the range above normal temperature and in the temperature range in which said electronic apparatus operates.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
The invention defined in claim 2 in which said layer of plastic is foraminous.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
The invention defined in claim 2 which further comprises an electronic component the component having a surface in intimate contact with one side of said sheet.
