Sulfo group-free disazo, trisazo and tetrakisazo compounds containing at lease one basic or cationic group

Claim 1

A compound of the formula ##STR60## or an acid addition salt thereof, wherein each D' is independently phenyl subtituted by 1 or 2 Z' groups; phenyl substituted by 1 or 2 Z' groups and by 1 or 2 further substituents each of which is independently halo, C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, C 1-4 alkylamino or di-(C 1-4 alkyl)amino or naphthyl substituted by 1 or 2 --SO 2 --NR 2 '--Q--NR 3 'R 4 ' groups, wherein each Z' is independently --CO--NR 2 '--Q--NR 3 'R 4 ', --CO--NR 2 '--(CH 2 ) q --N.sup.⊕ (CH 3 ) 3 A.sup.⊖, ##STR61## --SO 2 --NR 2 '--Q--NR 3 'R 4 ', --CO--(CH 2 ) a --N(C 1-2 alkyl) 2 , --CO--CH 2 --N.sup.⊕ (CH 3 ) 3 A.sup.⊖, --NH--CO--CH 2 --N(C 1-2 alkyl) 2 , --NH--CO--CH 2 --N.sup.⊕ (CH 3 ) 3 A.sup.⊖, ##STR62## wherein Q is linear or branched C 2-6 alkylene or --NH--CO--CH 2 --, R 1 ' is hydrogen or methyl, R 2 ' is hydrogen or methyl, each of R 3 ' and R 4 ' is independently hydrogen, C 1-6 alkyl, 2- or 3-n-C 2-3 hydroxyalkyl or benzyl or --NR 3 'R 4 ' is pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino, Ta is chloro, hydroxy, amino, C 1-4 alkylamino, di-(C 1-4 alkyl)amino, C 2-4 hydroxyalkylamino, di-(C 2-4 hydroxyalkyl)amino, anilino or morpholino, each X' is independently --NR 2 '--Q--NR 3 'R 4 ', --NR 2 '--(CH 2 ) q --N.sup.⊕ (CH 3 ) 3 A.sup.⊖ or ##STR63## wherein q is 2 or 3, and Q, R 2 ', R 3 ' and R 4 ' are as defined above, a is 1, 2 or 3, and q is 2 or 3, and Q, R 2 ', R 3 ' and R 4 ' are as defined above, each R 10 is independently hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy, each R 11 is independently hydrogen, halo, C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, (C 1-4 alkyl)carbonylamino, ureido or Zb, wherein Zb is --NH--CO--CH 2 --N(C 1-2 alkyl) 2 , --NH--CO--CH 2 --N.sup.⊕ (CH 3 ) 3 A.sup.⊖, ##STR64## wherein R 1 ', Ta and X' are as defined above, each R 12 is independently hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, and Ya is --CO--, 13 CO--CH═CH--CO--, --CO--(CH 2 ) q --CO--, ##STR65## wherein T is halo; hydroxy; amino; C 1-4 alkylamino; di-(C 1-4 alkyl)amino; C 1-4 alkylamino the alkyl moiety of which is monosubstituted by halo or hydroxy; di-(C 1-4 alkyl)amino at least one of the alkyl moieties of which is monosubstituted by halo or hydroxy C 5-6 cycloalkylamino; anilino; substituted anilino having on the phenyl ring 1 or 2 substituents selected from halo, C 1-4 -alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, hydroxy and phenoxy or morpholino, X is --NR 2 --Q--NR 3 R 4 or --NR 2 --Q--N.sup.⊕ R 5 R 6 R 7 A.sup.⊖, wherein Q is linear or branched C 2-6 alkylene or --NH--CO--CH 2 --, R 2 is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, each of R 3 and R 4 is independently hydrogen; C 1-6 alkyl; C 2-6 alkyl monosubstituted in the 2-, 3-, 4-, 5- or 6-position by hydroxy or cyano; phenyl(C 1-3 alkyl); phenyl(C 1-3 alkyl) the phenyl ring of which is substituted by 1 to 3 substituents selected from the group consisting of chloro, C 1-4 alkyl and C 1-4 alkoxy; C 5-6 cycloalkyl or C 5-6 cycloalkyl substituted by 1 to 3 C 1-4 alkyl groups or --NR 3 R 4 is pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino, each of R 5 and R 6 is independently C 1-6 alkyl; C 2-6 alkyl monosubstituted in the 2-, 3-, 4-, 5- or 6-position by hydroxy or cyano; phenyl(C 1-3 alkyl); phenyl(C 1-3 alkyl) the phenyl ring of which is substituted by 1 to 3 substituents selected from the group consisting of chloro, C 1-4 alkyl and C 1-4 alkoxy; C 5-6 cycloalkyl or C 5-6 cycloalkyl substituted by 1 to 3 C 1-4 alkyl groups, and R 7 is C 1-4 alkyl or benzyl or --N.sup.⊕ R 5 R 6 R 7 is --NR 7 -pyrrolidinium, --NR 7 -piperidinium, --NR 7 --morpholinium, pyridinium, methylpyridinium or dimethylpyridinium, wherein R 7 is C 1-4 alkyl or benzyl, and q is 2 or 3, wherein each A.sup.⊖ is independently a non-chromophoric anion, and each halo is independently fluoro, chloro or bromo, with the proviso that the compound may be in acid addition salt form only if it contains at least one non-cationic basic group.
