Abstract

Abstract A process for improving the methanol conversion rate in the reaction of methanol and ammonia to produce methylamines which comprises effecting the reaction in the presence of a highly acidic dehydrated aluminosilicate catalyst manifesting microporous diffusivity for the methylamines. Rare earth Y zeolite and hydrogen exchanged Y zeolite are the preferred catalysts.
