Abstract

Abstract One or more sorbent bases selected from the group consisting of the alkali and alkaline earth metal oxides, hydoxides, carbonates and bicarbonates are treated with at least one organic halide of the general formula R--X n where R is an organic radical containing from 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, X is a halogen atom and n has a value from 1 to about 10 to form a sorbent suitable for removing acidic substances from gas mixtures.
