Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
72 words
An abrasive impact cutting tool comprising a bundle of elongated, parallel filamentary cemented metal carbide rods and a tubular metal collar surrounding said bundle, said bundle being in a tight-fitting, close-packed relationship of said rods, each of said rods having an outer surface, a portion of said outer surface being in abutment against a portion of the outer surfaces of a plurality of adjacent rods, said bundle being shrink-fitted within said collar.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
19 words
The cutting tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said cemented metal carbide rods are cobalt-cemented tungsten carbide.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
16 words
The cutting tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said rods have a variable diameter.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
27 words
The cutting tool as set forth in claim 2 wherein a variable amount of cobalt is present in the plurality of rod members making up said bundle.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
80 words
An abrasive impact cutting tool comprising a bundle of elongated, parallel, filamentary, cemented metal carbide rods in a softer, tougher metal matrix, said elongated, parallel, filamentary, cemented carbide rods having a variable content of cementation metal, each of said rods having an outer surface, a portion of said outer surface being in abutment against a portion of the outer surfaces of a plurality of adjacent rods, said rods being bundled so as to promote profiled wear of the cutting tool.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
80 words
An abrasive impact cutting tool comprising a bundle of elongated, parallel, filamentary, cemented metal carbide rods in a softer, tougher metal matrix, said elongated, parallel, filamentary, cemented carbide rods having a variable content of cementation metal, each of said rods having an outer surface, a portion of said outer surface being in abutment against a portion of the outer surfaces of a plurality of adjacent rods, said rods being bundled so as to promote profiled wear of the cutting tool.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
27 words
The cutting tool as set forth in claim 5 wherein said cemented metal carbide rods are cobalt-cemented tungsten carbide and said matrix metal is a steel alloy.
