In an internal combustion engine having a plurality of exhaust systems which are made different in length from each other and comprise a plurality of exhaust ports formed in an engine main body and separately communicated with a combustion chamber above a single cylinder and exhaust pipes communicated with said plural exhaust ports respectively, an exhaust gas cleaning device wherein secondary-air supply pipes are communicated with said plural exhaust systems respectively and further connected with reed valve means adapted to open and close in response to the pulsation pressures of the exhaust gas in said plurality of exhaust systems communicated with said secondary-air supply pipes.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
44 words
An exhaust gas cleaning device of an internal combustion engine as defined in claim 1, wherein said plurality of exhaust systems are arranged in a concentrated manner and further communicated with a secondary-air supply pipe, which is also connected with said reed valve means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
123 words
An exhaust gas cleaning device of an internal combustion engine as defined in claim 1, wherein said reed valve means comprises: a valve case; an upstream chamber formed in the central portion of said valve case; a plurality of downstream chambers formed in said valve case and radially disposed within substantially the same plane with respect to said upstream chamber; reed valve bodies formed between said upstream chamber and said downstream chambers respectively and adapted to allow air to flow only from said upstream chamber to said downstream chambers; an inlet port opened to said upstream chamber, said inlet port opening to the atmospheric air; and outlet ports opened to said downstream chambers respectively, and communicated with said plurality of exhaust systems respectively.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
115 words
An exhaust gas cleaning device of an internal combustion engine as defined in claim 1, wherein said internal combustion engine is mounted on a frame of a motorcycle, said main body of said internal combustion engine has a cylinder block extended in the vertical direction of said frame as well as a crankcase extended rearward of said frame, said crankcase connecting with the lower part of said cylinder block, and moreover, an intake system leading to an intake port of said engine main body is extended rearward of said frame on said crankcase in order to dispose said reed valve means within the space surrounded by said cylinder block, said crankcase and said intake system.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
47 words
An exhaust gas cleaning device of an internal combustion engine as defined in claim 4, wherein said secondary-air supply pipes communicating with said plurality of exhaust systems are disposed inwardly of and closer to said frame than the respective outside surfaces of said plurality of exhaust systems.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
