Abstract
Abstract The ultrasound apparatus contains a focusing device such as a lens or lens system for focusing ultrasound waves. It also contains an ultrasound detector for receiving the focused ultrasound waves. The detector includes a number of elongated piezoelectric detector elements. The longitudinal axis of these elongated elements are curved. The focusing device is an astigmatic focusing device and has a first and a second focal plane. The ultrasound detector is positioned in one of these planes.
