Abstract

Abstract A microwave system for frost protection of fruit trees and plants which utilizes a concentrated beam of microwave energy radiated from a directional microwave antenna and directed toward trees, plants and fruits in danger of freezing. The microwave energy is absorbed in the tissues of the leaves and fruits where it is converted to heat energy. In one form the antenna is mounted atop a mast from where the beam may be directed toward selected trees or plants by means of a two axis swiveling sequencer controlled by motors and control apparatus. In another form, the antenna is mounted atop an articulated two-leg boom attached to a wheeled carriage that may be self propelled or drawn and which has controls for operating the boom and for direction the antenna.
