Claim 1
Independent Claim
139 words
In a method of reacting an isocyanate compound with a compound containing active hydrogen capable of reacting with the isocyanate in the presence of a catalyst to form a polyurethane, wherein the catalyst is dissolved in the active hydrogen compound at a sufficient temperature to maintain the compound in a liquid phase, which compound is then mixed into the isocyanate at a sufficient temperature to prevent the compound from freezing out of solution, the improvement which comprises mixing the isocyanate into the active hydrogen compound in the absence of the catalyst at a sufficient temperature to maintain a homogeneous single-phase reaction solution, cooling the solution to a minimum temperature above the temperature at which the active hydrogen compound freezes out of the solution, which temperature is below the normal freezing point of the catalyst, and finally adding the catalyst.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
15 words
An improved method according to claim 1, wherein the active hydrogen compound is a polyol.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
14 words
An improved method according to claim 2, wherein the polyol is a polycarbonate diol.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
14 words
An improved method according to claim 3, wherein the catalyst is butyl stannoic acid.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
13 words
An improved method according to claim 4, wherein the isocyanate is 4,4'-methylene-bis(cyclohexyl isocyanate).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
43 words
An improved method according to claim 5, wherein the isocyanate and polyol are mixed together at a temperature of about 45° C. to form a homogeneous solution which is then cooled to a temperature below about 35° C. prior to adding the catalyst.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
22 words
An improved method according to claim 6, wherein the temperature to which the solution is cooled is about 15° to 20° C.
