Abstract
Abstract A closure of flexible molded plastic material is adapted to seal around the mouth at the open end of a storage container and comprises a main closure wall having an outer periphery and an inside surface adapted to span across and close the container mouth when inserted into the open end. The main closure wall includes a central portion deflectable inwardly toward an opposite end of the container when initiating a seal across the open end thereof. A peripheral flange is formed around the main closure wall to extend transversely away from the inside surface and includes a deflectable depending skirt having a free end portion spaced outwardly of an outer peripheral edge and the inside surface of the main closure wall separated therefrom by an annular groove. When the closure is inserted into the open mouth of the container, the central portion is depressed and a free end portion of the skirt establishes a continuous air tight peripheral seal around the mouth of the container to provide an air tight storage environment for the contents.

A closure formed of flexible molded plastic material and adapted to seal around the mouth at the open end of a storage container, comprising: a main closure wall having an outer periphery and an inside surface adapted to span across and close said container mouth when said closure is inserted into said open end of said container, said main closure wall including a central portion deflectable inwardly toward an opposite end of said container, and a peripheral flange integrally joined with said main closure wall around the periphery thereof and extended transversely away from said inside surface, said flange including a deflectable, depending skirt having a free end portion spaced outwardly of an outer peripheral edge of said inside surface of said main closure wall and separated therefrom by a groove, said depending free end portion of said skirt establishing a continuous peripheral seal around the mouth of said open end of said container when said closure is inserted into said container and said inside surface is moved toward contact against said open end of said container by inward deflection of said central portion main closure wall.
