Abstract
Abstract The invention relates to new industrial products of the general formula <IMAGE> a process for the manufacture of these products and their application in hydrometallurgy. According to the invention, R is in particular an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, carboxylate, polyoxyethylene, polyester or polycarbonate group. The process consists in reacting an alcohol or a polyol, ROH, with 2,3-dioxycarbonylpropyl chloroformate, at between -10 DEG and +20 DEG C., in the presence of an acid acceptor. Application: the compounds according to the invention are extraction agents for hydrometallurgy, which can be used in dilute solution.

A carbonate carrying cyclic carbonate groups, of the general formula: ##STR23## in which R is ##STR24## (b) a polyoxyethylene of formula R'--O--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2).sub.n, in which n is between 1 and 40 and in which R' is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; (c) a polyoxyethylene of formula R'(OCH 2 CH 2 ) n in which R' is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, n is between 1 and 40 and R' carries one or two chains (O--CH 2 --CH 2 ) n ', in which n' is between 1 and 40, which chains are terminated by a group ##STR25## (d) a polyoxypropylene of the formula ##STR26## in which p is between 1 and 40 and in which R' is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; (e) a polyoxypropylene of formula ##STR27## in which p is between 1 and 40, R' is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms which carries one or two chains ##STR28## in which p' is between 1 and 40, which chains are terminated by a group ##STR29## (f) phenyl; (g) an aliphatic polycarbonate ##STR30## in which r is between 1 and 20 and in which R 3 and R 4 are identical or different, and are polymethylene groups containing from 2 to 8 carbon atoms or polyoxyethylene groups --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O.sub.t CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --, in which t is equal to 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, (h) an alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms.
