Claim 1
Independent Claim
170 words
A cannula for insertion into a body cavity, duct, vessel, and the like, of a patient, said cannula being formed by joining at least two distinct elements, comprising: a parent cannula member having distal and proximal ends; a radiopaque tip fused to said distal end of said cannula member to form a unitary cannula with said cannula member for substantially preventing detachment of said radiopaque tip within said cavity, duct, vessel, and the like, of said patient, said radiopaque tip having a reduced diameter in one location in order to form an annular shoulder on said tip, said radiopaque tip having a durometer Shore hardness factor of approximately 10 less than said parent cannula member; and an inflatable cuff mounted on and surrounding said parent cannula member, said cuff being attached to said cannula member by means of sleeves, at least one of said sleeves abutting said annular shoulder on said radiopaque tip in order to provide a smooth exterior surface on said cannula to prevent injury to said patient.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
16 words
The cannula of claim 1 wherein said radiopaque tip is dielectrically fused to said cannula member.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
152 words
A unitary, integral cannula for insertion into a body cavity, comprising: a parent cannula member having distal and proximal ends; a radiopaque tip fused to said distal end of said parent cannula member to form a unitary cannula with said parent cannula member, said radiopaque tip having a Shore hardness factor of approximately 10 less than said parent cannula member to avoid injury to a patient, said radiopaque tip having a reduced diameter portion; and an inflatable cuff mounted on said cannula for forming an airtight seal between said cannula and the inner walls of said body cavity, said cuff being mounted on said cannula by means of a sleeve which engages said reduced diameter portion on said radiopaque tip to provide a smooth exterior surface on said cannula to further prevent injury to said patient, said sleeve covering the joint between said tip and said distal end of said cannula member.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
24 words
The cannula of claim 3, wherein said reduced diameter portion on said cannula radiopaque tip forms a shoulder and said sleeve engages said shoulder.
