Claim 1
Independent Claim
61 words
A method for grinding cereal grains said method comprising grinding the cereal grain in the presence of an aqueous grinding medium, said aqueous grinding medium being employed in amounts from about 10 to about 80 weight percent based on the weight of the cereal grain and aqueous grinding medium, and an amount of a hydrophilic polysaccharide sufficient to increase grinding efficiency.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
61 words
A method for grinding cereal grains said method comprising grinding the cereal grain in the presence of an aqueous grinding medium, said aqueous grinding medium being employed in amounts from about 10 to about 80 weight percent based on the weight of the cereal grain and aqueous grinding medium, and an amount of a hydrophilic polysaccharide sufficient to increase grinding efficiency.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the hydrophilic polysaccharide is a cellulose ether, a natural gum or a modified starch.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
12 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the hydrophilic polysaccharide is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
74 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the cereal grain is corn, the aqueous grinding medium is employed in an amount of from about 25 to about 60 weight percent based on the weight of the cereal grain, and the hydrophilic polysaccharide is methylcellulose or derivative thereof, said polysaccharide being employed in an amount from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent based on the total weight of the cereal grain and aqueous grinding medium.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
16 words
The method of claim 4 wherein the grinding is conducted using a rotary shear type mill.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
48 words
The method of claim 5 wherein the hydrophilic polysaccharide is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and is employed in an amount from about 0.2 to about 5 weight percent based on the total weight of the cereal grain and aqueous grinding medium and the grinding is conducted using a hammer mill.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
34 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the hydrophilic polysaccharide is employed in an amount from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent, based on the weight of the aqueous grinding medium and cereal grain.
