Abstract
Abstract A liquid crystal display means which employs a mixture of a pleochroic dye and cholesteric or chiral, nematic liquid crystals as a dielectric in a cell whose optical density may be changed by application thereto of an electric field, and in which the mixture contains a substance which makes the characteristic pitch of the liquid crystals such that an improved switching response is achieved, and the molecular structure of the liquid crystals is such that improved contrast is achieved, is disclosed.
