Indoxylmaltodextrins which have the general formula: ##STR2## in which n is an integer from 1 to 9, R 1 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are halogen, alkyl or alkoxy with 1-5 carbon atoms, phenyl, substituted phenyl, phenoxy, substituted phenoxy, nitro or hydrogen, R 2 is H, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy with 1-3 C atoms in the alkyl chain and the heterosidic glucoside bond has the α- or β-configuration.
