Claim 1
Independent Claim
182 words
A communications network having a plurality of peripheral and central communications nodes, a first plurality of terrestrial communications links connecting said central nodes directly to each other, a second plurality of terrestrial communications links individually connecting said peripheral nodes to said central nodes, means for connecting a plurality of customers to each peripheral node, certain of said means being effective to input data at a first given speed and certain others for inputting data at a different speed, developing means at each of said nodes for successively developing at a first repetition rate multi-user packets each containing data from at least two of said plurality of customers connected to that node, said developing means including means effective in a first mode for sampling data input from said customers at intervals directly related to their output speeds at the exit node and, when in another mode, effective upon the existence of available channel space, at speeds higher than said output speeds at the exit node, and means connected to said peripheral node for conducting said multi-user packets to other nodes within said network.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
22 words
A communications network according to claim 1 in which terrestrial links are further included to link said peripheral nodes in near-neighbour pairs.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
27 words
A communications network according to claim 1 further including a satellite, in which said central nodes are further interconnected directly, each to the other, through said satellite.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
42 words
A communications network according to claim 1, further including a satellite in which terrestrial links are included to link said peripheral nodes in near-neighbour pairs and in which said central nodes are further interconnected directly, each to the other, through said satellite.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
31 words
A communications network according to claim 4, in which at least one of said peripheral nodes is interconnected with said satellite and connected to one central node through a terrestrial link.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
27 words
A communications network according to claim 1, wherein each input node further comprises means effective to produce a plurality of differing electrical signals severally representing destination tables.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
27 words
A communications network according to claim 1 wherein each input node further comprises means effective to produce a plurality of differing electrical signals severally representing activity fields.
Claim 9
