Claim 1
Independent Claim
85 words
A process for the preparation of a monocarboxylic acid which comprises reacting carbon monoxide and a hydrocarbyl alcohol in the presence of an iodide and in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of nickel or a nickel compound and a phosphine promoter, said iodide being employed in the amount of 10 to 200 mols, expressed as I, per 100 mols of alcohol, and said reacting being carried out at a temperature of 25°-350° C. and at a carbon monoxide partial pressure of 1-10,000 psi.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
24 words
A process as defined in claim 1, wherein the acid is a lower alkanoic acid, and the hydrocarbyl alcohol is a lower alkyl alcohol.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
19 words
A process as defined in claim 1, wherein the acid is acetic acid and the hydrocarbyl alcohol is methanol.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
87 words
A process for the preparation of a monocarboxylic acid which comprises reacting carbon monoxide and a hydrocarbyl alcohol in the presence of an iodide and in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of nickel or a nickel compound and a phosphine promoter, said iodide being employed in the amount of 10 to 200 mols, expressed as I, per 100 mols of alcohol, and said reacting being carried out at a temperature of 25°-350° C. and at a carbon monoxide partial pressure of 15 to 1,000 psi.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
