An aminoplast foam consisting of a hardened reaction product of an aldehyde and an at least bifunctional modified α,ω-urea having a molecular weight of from 200 to 10,000 and corresponding to the formula R--(O--CO--NH--R'--NH--CO--NH.sub.2).sub.n in which R represents an n-functional radical which contains at least one of ether, thioether, acetal, ester, ester amide and carbonate groups and has a molecular weight of from 44 to 10,000, and R' represents the radical of an at least bifunctional isocyanate and n is an integer from 2 to 4.
