Intumescent composition
Abstract
Abstract A compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein a, b, c, d, and n are integers; a is from 1 to 3; b and c are independently selected from the group consisting of 0 and 1; d and n are independently selected from the group consisting of 1 and 2; R 1 and R 4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and haloalkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and 1 to 2 halogen atoms; and R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from the group consisting of haloalkyl containing 1 to about 4 carbon atoms and 1 to about 2 halogen atoms selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine, and mixtures thereof. The use of this compound with specified amounts of a certain methylated methylol melamine and water allows one to produce an intumescent composition which is substantially superior to prior art intumescent compositions.
