Abstract

Abstract An improved photosensitive litho element comprises, in order, a support, a non-photosensitive solvent-soluble contiguous layer having an optical density of at least 3.0 in the visible region of the spectrum and a maximum thickness of 0.015 mm, and a solvent-processable photosensitive layer. Dot-etchable contact litho negatives and positives are provided.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 88 words
In a photosensitive dot-etchable litho element having a sheet support and a solvent-processable non-silver halide photosensitive layer, the exposed areas of the solvent-processable photosensitive layer, after imagewise exposure of the element to actinic radiation, being solvent-soluble, the improvement wherein between the support and the photosensitive layer and contiguous thereto is present a non-photosensitive, solvent-soluble dye or pigment-containing layer having an optical density of at least 3.0 in the visible region of the spectrum and a maximum thickness of 0.015 mm, said contiguous layer being adhered to the support.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 88 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 12 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the photosensitive layer is photodesensitizable.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 12 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the photosensitive layer is photosolubilizable.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the photosensitive layer is aqueous-processable.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the contiguous layer is soluble in a solvent for the photosensitive layer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the contiguous layer is soluble in an aqueous solution.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the optical density of the contiguous layer is at least 4.0.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 19 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the thickness of the contiguous layer ranges from 0.0011 to 0.015 mm.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 16 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the thickness of the contiguous layer is 0.010 mm.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 14 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the support is a film sheet support.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 12 words
An element according to claim 1 wherein the contiguous layer is non-elastomeric.
