Abstract
Abstract A field replaceable electrode assembly for a magnetic flowmeter or the like in which an electrode may be readily installed in and sealed relative to a fitting provided on a meter body from the exterior of the meter body. In particular, the end of the electrode assembly in sensing relation with the fluid being metered is structured as to be "self-cleaned" by the flow of the fluid.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
262 words
An electrode assembly adapted to be sealably installed on a meter body or the like, said meter body having a liner on the inside thereof of suitable electrical insulation material and an opening therethrough for accommodating said electrode assembly, said electrode assembly comprising a fitting adapted to be inserted through said opening and to extend outwardly from said meter body, said fitting having an axial bore therethrough, an enlarged head on the end thereof disposed within said meter body, and means for holding said head in sealable engagement with said liner, said assembly further comprising an electrode adapted to be inserted in and removed from said bore from the exterior of said meter body, said electrode being held within said bore in a sensing position in which it is in sensing relation with fluid flowing through said meter body, means for sealing said electrode with respect to said fitting, said head of said fitting and a portion of said electrode in sensing relation with the fluid flowing through said meter body being so structured as to be self-cleaned by the flow of fluid thereover, said head having a first surface adapted to sealably engage said liner proximate said opening and a second surface facing generally inwardly toward the center of said meter body, said second surface being generally conical-shaped with the central portion thereof projecting into said meter body more than the outer margins thereof, the portion of said second surface surrounding said bore extending through said fitting and the end of electrode in sensing relation with said fluid being generally coterminous.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
26 words
An electrode assembly as set forth in claim 1 further comprising means exterior of said meter body for holding said fitting against rotation within said hole.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
44 words
An electrode assembly as set forth in claim 2 wherein said holding means comprises a member non-rotatably engageable with the exterior of said fitting and interfitting with said meter body thereby to positively hold said fitting against rotation with respect to said meter body.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
61 words
An electrode assembly as set forth in claim 3 wherein said fitting has at least one flat on the exterior thereof, and wherein said holding member is adapted to closely conform to the exterior of said fitting, said holding member having a portion thereof adapted to engage said meter body in such manner as to positively hold said fitting against rotation.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
69 words
An electrode assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said electrode has a blind bore therewithin with the bottom of said bore being in close proximity to the interior of said meter body when said electrode assembly is installed on said meter body, ultrasonic means being receivable within said bore for ultrasonically cleaning the end portion of said electrode without removal of the electrode from said meter body.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
54 words
An electrode assembly as set forth in claim 5 wherein said ultrasonic cleaning means comprises an ultrasonic transducer fitted within said bore in ultrasonic excitation relation with the end of said electrode, said ultrasonic transducer remaining in place within said electrode and being selectively energized so as to effect ultrasonic cleaning of said electrode.
