Abstract

Abstract A separating material for thin-layer chromatography, comprising a substrate material coated with a thin sorbent layer, wherein the sorbent layer optionally contains a binder, an indicator, or both, is improved in that the sorbent layer has a surface modified by reacting the sorbent layer with a silanizing agent without the exclusion of moisture.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 46 words
In a separating material for thin-layer chromatography, comprising a substrate material having a coating thereon which coating comprises a thin sorbent layer, the improvement wherein the sorbent layer has a surface modified by reacting the sorbent layer with a silanizing agent without the exclusion of moisture.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 46 words
In a separating material for thin-layer chromatography, comprising a substrate material having a coating thereon which coating comprises a thin sorbent layer, the improvement wherein the sorbent layer has a surface modified by reacting the sorbent layer with a silanizing agent without the exclusion of moisture.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
A separating material of claim 1, wherein the sorbent layer is modified by aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, substituted aralkyl, alkyl or substituted alkyl groups, each of up to 20 carbon atoms.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
(Amended) A separating material of claim 1, wherein the sorbent is silica gel.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 101 words
A process for the production of a separating material for thin layer chromatography, comprising a substrate material having a coating thereon, which coating comprises a thin sorbent layer having a surface modified by reacting the sorbent layer with a silanizing agent without the exclusion of moisture, said process comprising impregnating the sorbent layer of a conventional TLC separating material with an unmodified surface with a solution of the silanizing agent in an organic solvent; drying the impregnated layer in air; subsequently washing the dried layer with at least one aprotic solvent; and then washing it with at least one protonic solvent.
Claim 6
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 35 words
A process of claim 4, wherein the silanizing agent is a methyl-alkyl, methyl-aryl, or methyl-aralkyl dichlorosilane with aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, substituted aralkyl, alkyl or substituted alkyl groups, each of up to 20 carbon atoms.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 12 words
The separating material prepared by the process of claim 4 or 5.

Claim 12
Dependent Claim 14 words
The separating material of claim 1, wherein the sorbent layer further comprises an indicator.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 36 words
A separating material of claim 1 wherein the silanizing agent is a methyl-alkyl, methyl-aryl, or methyl-aralkyl dichlorosilane with aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, substituted aralkyl, alkyl or substituted alkyl groups, each of up to 20 carbon atoms.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 28 words
The separating material of claim 1, wherein the sorbent layer has a surface modified by reacting the sorbent layer with a silanizing agent in the presence of air.
