Claim 1
Independent Claim 166 words
A liquid development system for marking a record member moving in one direction and bearing a latent image, including means for storing liquid developer, fountain means having an inlet and an outlet, supply means connecting said storing means with said inlet, return means connecting said outlet with said storing means, the liquid developer flowing through said fountain from said inlet to said outlet generally in said one direction, said development system being characterized by said fountain means comprising an upper surface for guiding said record member for movement thereagainst, a development zone defined by a plurality of openings in said upper surface in the form of spaced, substantially parallel slots in said upper surface communicating with the interior of said fountain, said slots extending transversely to said one direction, and internal baffle means positioned to define a sinusoidal passageway extending from said inlet to said outlet through the interior of said fountain for directing the liquid developer to repetitively contact said record member through said slots.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 166 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 1 wherein said return means includes a suction pump to draw liquid developer through said system and deliver it to said storing means, and to draw said record member into intimate contact with said upper surface.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 1 wherein a backing member is provided for urging said record member against said upper surface adjacent said development zone.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 41 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 3 wherein said backing member comprises an open channel member, a flexible sheet overlying the open channel of said channel member and means for resiliently urging said flexible sheet against said record member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 129 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 1 wherein said baffle means includes plural baffle walls hanging from the upper portion of said fountain into the interior of said fountain alternating with plural baffle walls rising from the lower portion of said fountain into the interior of said fountain and wherein the upper ends of said rising baffle walls terminate below said slots and the lower ends of said hanging baffle walls terminate above the lower portion of said fountain, whereby the upper reaches of said sinusoidal passageway are defined between the upper ends of said rising baffle walls and said slots and the lower reaches of said sinusoidal passageway are defined between the lower ends of said hanging baffle walls and the lower portion of said fountain.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 5 wherein said hanging and rising baffle walls have step portions thereon for agitating and intermixing the liquid developer flowing therepast.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 31 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 1 wherein said fountain further includes clean-up means, located downstream of said development zone, for removing excess liquid developer from said record member.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 59 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 7 wherein said clean-up means comprises an elongated opening in said upper surface substantially parallel to said slots and spaced therefrom in a downstream direction, said opening communicating with said return means which comprises a suction pump for drawing liquid developer past said baffle means and air through said clean-up opening.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 26 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 8 wherein said clean-up opening includes a doctoring edge for scraping excess liquid developer from said record member.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 59 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 2 further including concentrate storage means, concentrate delivery means connecting said concentrate storage means with said return means, and normally closed valve means in said concentrate delivery means, whereby when said valve means is opened concentrate will be drawn from said storage means to said return means by said suction pump.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 66 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 2 further including purge means comprising a purge conduit open to the atmosphere at one end and connected to said supply means at the other end, and purge valve means located in said purge conduit, whereby when said purge valve means is energized only air will be drawn through said fountain to purge said fountain of liquid developer.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 33 words
The liquid development system as defined in claim 1 wherein said development zone is substantially rectangular and said inlet and outlet are located in said fountain at opposite corners of said development zone.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 119 words
A liquid development fountain comprising a body having internal passage means, inlet means and outlet means on said body communicating with said passage means and an upper surface over which a record member may be moved in one direction during marking with a liquid developer, said fountain being characterized by a development zone defined by a plurality of openings in said upper surface in the form of spaced, substantially parallel slots in said upper surface communicating with said internal passage means, said slots extending transversely to said one direction, and baffle means located within said body and positioned to define said internal passage as a sinuous path whereby the upper portions of said sinuous path are adjacent said slots.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 119 words
