Abstract
Abstract There are provided dry-set cement mortars comprising hydraulic cement and water soluble, high molecular weight polymers and gelatinous metal hydroxides and metal salts capable of forming gelatinous or hydrated hydroxides in the presence of aqueous base. These metal hydroxides and metal salts may be the hydroxides or salts of aluminum, the transition element metals, and the mixed salts of alkali metals or ammonium with certain trivalent metallic cations together with the appropriate anions. The novel sag resistant compositions allow for the replacement of asbestos fibers which are used to impart sag resistance in state-of-the-art dry-set Portland cement mortars.
