Abstract

Abstract Electrodes for an electromagnetic flow meter are mounted through a pipe wall using pairs of concentric electrodes electrically insulated from each other and from the mounting pipeline while electrically contacting a fluid in the pipeline being measured for flow rate. The electrode pairs are held on the pipeline wall on a line intersecting the fluid flow at a right angle and are electrically connected to supply signals induced by the fluid flow to a measuring circuit. The concentric electrode structure provides two electrode pairs at each electrode site on the pipeline wall.

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 148 words
An electrode structure comprising a center electrically conductive electrode having a tapered head at one end and a threaded portion at the other end of said electrode, an electrically insulating tube surrounding a portion of said center electrode including the sides of said tapered head while allowing at least a portion of said threaded end to project from said tube, an outer electrically conductive electrode surrounding a portion of said tube at said tapered head end of said center electrode and clamping means for compressing said center and outer electrodes against said insulating tube while maintaining said insulating tube therebetween, wherein said clamping means includes a nut on said threaded end of said center electrode projecting from said insulating tube, and electrically insulating washer means slidably mounted on said insulating tube and bearing on said outer electrode and a spring means between said nut and said washer means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 148 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 72 words
An electrode structure as set forth in claim 1 and further including means for mounting said electrode structure through a pipeline wall forming a pipeline for guiding a fluid therein whereby said center and outer electrodes are in electrical contact with said fluid carried by said pipeline and electrically insulated from said pipeline wall and first electrical connection means for said center electrode and second electrical connection means for said outer electrode.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 230 words
In an electromagnetic flow meter including a pipe for guiding fluid, a magnetic field generator for generating a magnetic field which intersects the fluid flow direction at a right angle and fluid contacting electrodes facing each other across the pipe in such a manner that a center-line combining them intersects the flow direction and the magnetic field at a right angle, characterized in that a least one of the fluid contacting electrodes is an electrode assembly having a plurality of electrodes being in coaxial relation and electrically insulating means electrically isolating said plurality of electrodes from each other, wherein said electrode assembly includes a center electrode having a tapered head at one end and a threaded portion at the other end thereof, an electrically insulating tube surrounding a portion of said center electrode including the sides of said tapered head of said center electrode while allowing a portion of said threaded end to project therefrom, an outer electrically conductive electrode surrounding a portion of said tube and clamping means for compressing said center and outer electrodes against said insulating tube to retain said electrode assembly in said pipe, wherein said clamping means includes a nut on said threaded end of said center electrode, an insulating washer means slidably mounted on said insulating tube and bearing on said outer electrode and a spring means between said nut and said washer means.
