Abstract

Abstract What is disclosed is a method of reducing microorganisms by contacting the microorganisms with the surface of a substrate which has been altered by contacting a substrate which develops a negative charge in water with a substance that ionizes in water to form cations and anions, which cations absorb to the substrate by a process of ion exchange in which protons are replaced by the cations of the ionizing substance. The altered surfaces can include hospital sheeting, clothing and a wide variety of surfaces which come into contact with microorganisms.
