Abstract

Abstract This invention relates to an improvement in a radiation-sensitive mixture containing (a) a compound which forms an acid under the influence of actinic radiation and (b) a compound which has at least one acid-cleavable bond and the solubility of which in a liquid developer is increased by the action of an acid, the improvement that the compound which is capable of being cleft by an acid contains at least one N-acyliminocarbonate group as the acid-cleavable group. The invention also relates to a process for producing relief images using the radiation-sensitive mixture.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 174 words
In a radiation-sensitive mixture containing (a) a compound which forms an acid under the influence of actinic radiation and (b) a compound which has at least one acid-cleavable bond and the solubility of which in a liquid developer is increased by the action of an acid, the improvement that compound (b) corresponds to the general formula I ##STR6## wherein R 1 is an n-valent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic group, R 2 and R 3 are alkyl or aryl groups, and any two of the groups R 1 , R 2 , and R 3 may be linked to form a heterocyclic ring, and n is an integer from 1 to 3, or to the formula II ##STR7## wherein R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , & R 7 are hydrogen atoms or halogen atoms, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, acyl, acyloxy, carbalkoxy or nitro groups, and any two of the groups R 4 to R 7 may be linked to form a ring, and R 1 and n have the meanings stated above.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 174 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
A radiation-sensitive mixture according to claim 1 in which the compound (b) which is capable of being cleft by an acid corresponds to the formula III ##STR8## wherein R 1 is an n-valent aromatic group, R 8 and R 9 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups, and n is an integer from 1 to 3.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
A radiation-sensitive mixture according to claim 1 wherein n is 1 or 2.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
A radiation-sensitive mixture according to claim 1, wherein R 1 is an aromatic group.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
A radiation-sensitive mixture according to claim 1, wherein one of the groups R 2 and R 3 carries another grouping of the Formula I as a substituent.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
A radiation-sensitive mixture according to claim 2, wherein R 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, R 8 and R 9 are methyl groups, and n is 1.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
A radiation-sensitive mixture according to claim 1, which additionally contains a polymeric water-insoluble binder.
