Abstract
Abstract Method for the production of cementitious compositions and aggregate derivatives of said compositions, and cementitious compositions and aggregates produced by said method, wherein fluidized bed combustion residue and pozzolanic material, such as pulverized coal combustion system fly ash, are incorporated in a cementitious mix. The mix is cast into desired shape and cured. If desired, the shape may then be crushed so as to result in a fluidized bed combustion residue-fly ash aggregate material or the shape may be used by itself.

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim
115 words
Method of preparing cementitious compositions comprising: (a) collecting the spent residue from a fluidized combustion bed of the type wherein lime or limestone particles are suspended in a fluidized medium and wherein a carbonaceous fuel is ignited proximate said fluidized medium to capture therein substantial amounts of SO x which is generated upon ignition of said carbonaceous fuel, (b) adding water to said spent residue in sufficient quantities to substantially hydrate the lime component of said spent residue, and mixing the mixture of water and spent residue, (c) adding a pozzolanic material to said mixture, (d) casting the mixture produced as a result of step (c) into the desired shape, and (e) curing the shape.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
16 words
Method defined in claim 1 wherein said pozzolanic material comprises pulverized coal combustion system fly ash.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
14 words
Method as defined in claim 1 further comprising crushing said shape into aggregate pieces.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
27 words
Method as defined in claim 1 wherein said step (b) comprises adding from 20-30 weight percent water to said residue based upon the weight of said residue.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
26 words
Method as defined in claim 1 wherein said step (b) comprises mixing the mixture of water and spent residue for a period of about 15 minutes.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
29 words
Method as defined in claim 1 further comprising the step (f) of allowing the mixture of residue and water to cool prior to the performance of said step (c).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
41 words
Method as defined in claim 2 wherein the moisture content of the fly ash and residue mixture is controlled to within the range of about 9 to 19% by weight, based upon the weight of said residue and said fly ash.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
43 words
Method as defined in claim 1 wherein said step (d) comprises compacting the mixture produced as a result of step (c) to an extent necessary to place the dry unit weight of said cured shape within the range of about 100-120 lbs./cu. ft.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
17 words
Method as defined in claim 2 further comprising adding an aggregate material to the residue-fly ash mixture.

Claim 12
Dependent Claim
17 words
Method as defined in claim 7 comprising compacting the mixture into the shape of a reef block.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
30 words
Method as defined in claim 1 wherein said curing (e) comprises subjecting said shape to an environment heated to about 100° F. for a period of from about 7-28 days.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
22 words
Method as defined in claim 12 further comprising contacting said shape with steam during at least a portion of said curing step.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
34 words
Method as defined in claim 2 wherein fly ash and residue are provided in amounts of about 10-50% by weight fly ash per 90-50% by weight residue, the foregoing percentages adding up to 100.
