An azomethine metal complex of the formula ##STR162## in which R 3 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, M 1 is Ni, Cu, or Zn; and A is a radical for the formulae ##STR163## in which Q is methyl, alkoxycarbonyl with 2 to 5 carbon atoms or carbamoyl, R 8 is cyano, or carbamoyl, R 9 is hydrogen, or hydroxy, Y 2 and Y 3 are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or nitro, Y 4 is --NH--, Y 6 is hydrogen, carboxy, carbamoyl, alkoxycarbamoyl of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, alkylcarbamoyl of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, phenylcarbamoyl, phenylcarbamoyl substituted in the phenyl moiety by halogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Y 7 is hydrogen, halogen, methoxy, nitro or cyano.
