Claim 1
Independent Claim
180 words
A method for hydroprocessing a blend of solvent refined coal with recycle solvent to yield a liquid fuel product of reduced sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen content and enhanced hydrogen to carbon ratio and a solid fuel of low ash and low sulfur content which comprises blending solvent refined coal with a quantity of recycle solvent less than the quantity of solvent refined coal, contacting hydrogen with the blend of solvent refined coal and a quantity of recycle solvent less than the quantity of said solvent refined coal and with a porous catalyst of hydrogenation metals on a porous support wherein the major portion of the pore volume of said catalyst is constituted by pores of less than 100 A diameter at a hydroprocessing conditions of 650° F. to 850° F., pressure of at least about 500 psig and space velocity of about 0.1 to 3 LHSV and separately recovering from said contacting a hydrotreated liquid product of reduced sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen content and enhanced hydrogen to carbon ratio and a solid fuel of low ash and low sulfur content.
