Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 60 words
A method for preventing the precipitation of chlorhexidine gluconate from a chloride ion-containing aqueous solution thereof upon exposure to freezing which comprises adding to the solution a polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester having an HLB number greater than 11 in a concentration greater than about 0.05% and less than about 0.1% but at least 10 times that of the chlorhexidine gluconate.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 60 words
A method for preventing the precipitation of chlorhexidine gluconate from a chloride ion-containing aqueous solution thereof upon exposure to freezing which comprises adding to the solution a polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester having an HLB number greater than 11 in a concentration greater than about 0.05% and less than about 0.1% but at least 10 times that of the chlorhexidine gluconate.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said solution comprises an ophthalmic solution containing chlorhexidine gluconate in a concentration of about 0.005%.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
The method of claim 2 wherein said fatty acid ester is a partial ester of hexitol anhydride.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method of claim 2 wherein said ophthalmic solution contains sodium chloride in an amount sufficient to provide isotonicity.
